Finally back from my adventures around Europe and having a rest in London! I have so many pics from Barcelona, Rome and Italy but I'm still going through resizing everything so far now I thought I'd just share this new pic. It was mostly a test shoot but I think it's rather cool :)

The armour is by Maunel Albarran, whose workshop I was lucky enough to visit briefly while I was in Barcelona. Ended up carrying a whole box of his amazing stuff back in my hand luggage for shooting. Very surprised the airport security didn't ask to search my bag!

six... trillion dollars! [Nov. 28th, 2009|11:24 am]

One gimmick makes the new entitlement spending appear smaller by not opening the spigot until late in the official 10-year budget window (2010–2019). Correcting for that gimmick in the Senate version, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) estimates, “When all this new spending occurs” — i.e., from 2014 through 2023 — “this bill will cost $2.5 trillion over that ten-year period.”

Another gimmick pushes much of the legislation’s costs off the federal budget and onto the private sector by requiring individuals and employers to purchase health insurance. When the bills force somebody to pay $10,000 to the government, the Congressional Budget Office treats that as a tax. When the government then hands that $10,000 to private insurers, the CBO counts that as government spending. But when the bills achieve the exact same outcome by forcing somebody to pay $10,000 directly to a private insurance company, it appears nowhere in the official CBO cost estimates — neither as federal revenues nor federal spending. That’s a sharp departure from how the CBO treated similar mandates in the Clinton health plan. And it hides maybe 60 percent of the legislation’s total costs. When I correct for that gimmick, it brings total costs to roughly $2.5 trillion (i.e., $1 trillion/0.4). …

When we correct for both gimmicks, counting both on- and off-budget costs over the first 10 years of implementation, the total cost of ObamaCare reaches — I’m so sorry about this — $6.25 trillion. That’s not a precise estimate. It’s just far closer to the truth than President Obama and congressional Democrats want the debate to be. - *

Master of Magic [Nov. 28th, 2009|01:19 pm]

I've been trying to get Master of Magic running in dosemu. After much hair-pulling, I met with partial success by double-wrapping dosemu with padsp and aoss, like so:

LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD libaoss.so libpulsedsp.so" dosemu -D +S

This made dosemu see the sound card as a SoundBlaster 16 instead of a SoundBlaster 2.0. PCM output works with the game set to "SoundBlaster Pro (later)", but there's still no MIDI and the mixer is disabled. Running with sudo doesn't help.

A Word About the Michelle Obama Pictures and Google's Apology [Nov. 28th, 2009|07:19 am]

My answer to the Michelle/ape controversy:

...This was posted in the middle of 2008, and there are many more like it. Leave the Michelle/ape alone; let it be, and let who needs a laugh have a laugh. And besides, humans are closely related to chimps! If it were, say, Michelle/horse, then that might be insulting.

We stayed home for Thanksgiving this year. Molly was sick and I was nervous she would puke in the car. Also, I really did not want to spread the illness.

We had our Thanksgiving meal yesterday because Molly finally asked for food. We had pretty much all the fixings except we had chicken instead of turkey. Molly took two bites of chicken and ate the gravy from her potatoes before she declared herself done. Guess she's not feeling better quite yet.

Today I think we are going to get our tree! We haven't figured out where we are getting it yet. Suggestions?

happy holidays gingerbread houseThe nice thing about holidays with the family? Well, besides the turkey, stuffing, good company, good music, pie, copious leftovers… OK, so there are a lot of nice things about this time of year, but one of my favorites is lots of helping hands and extra entertainment for Miss Ellie.

I even had time to complete this cute holiday doodle… and in the process, I discovered how to make pretty snowflakes in Illustrator. Now I’m kind of obsessed with them. I may have to make yet another desktop wallpaper…

This gingerbread duo and the snowman design will soon be available as postcards in the Calobee Doodles shop!

quote of the day [Nov. 27th, 2009|11:08 pm]

liberpolly
“Insuring the uninsured is a moral imperative. The problem is that the Democrats have chosen the worst possible method — a $1 trillion new entitlement of stupefying arbitrariness and inefficiency. The better choice is targeted measures that attack the inefficiencies of the current system one by one — tort reform, interstate purchasing. and taxing employee benefits. It would take 20 pages to write such a bill, not 2,000 — and provide the funds to cover the uninsured without wrecking both U.S. health care and the U.S. Treasury.” But there’s no graft in that approach. *

Turkey day was a success. Lots of fun, too much good food, yay family over, and all that.
Morning after turkey dinner i woke up and threw up.
Then i felt great again.
Spent almost all of today breaking out the christmas stuff with my sister. Tree is done, ornaments done, but still other stuff to finish.
Had turkey day food again for dinner, though, it was a lot less this time.
Now i feeling icky again.
What is this fuckery? I can't eat turkey day goodness anymore?! So. Not. Fair.

AUGH BLUE LINES [Nov. 27th, 2009|08:15 pm]

Here's hoping this scan turned out ok. My screen is all gibbled with blue crap, so it's really hard to tell what the hell I'm doing. The scan should be ok though. I've scanned enough of these to do it with my eyes closed at this point.

In case you didn't see my last post, I'm blowing out all my original art pages at $50 a pop until I can raise enough to get a new computer! This one is toast. So if you have a favorite comic page or drawing I've done, post a comment or a PM and reserve it! You can pay via paypal or postal money order.

Now would also be a good time to tell you that you can subscribe to Cinema Sewer and Sleazy Slice for 2 years for just $24 ($32 overseas)! That is 4 publications, shipped to you the day they come out. It's a steal, and you're supporting all of my filthy habits. No one loses!

And, as usual, you can order yourself either CS book for just $29 each ($35 overseas), and expect to get a nice sexy/disgusting personalized drawing inside! Feel free to make reasonable requests!

Paypal them monies to: mindseye100 *AT* hotmail.com today so I can see what the fuck I am doing over here! BLUE LINES, EVERYWHERE! AUUUGH
